Here is a simple idea using the "Flip" template, to create an activity to encourage children to think about developing their sentences. Each page of a flip template is divided into three areas. If you write a random adjective, noun and verb into each area, then repeat over several pages, you can create an interactive resource that children can use to build up sentences. The activity below uses several random words, but you could build one with a particular theme, or tied into a topic / genre that is being studied.

This is just like the Pie Corbett idea in talk for writing. He says that the best writing is usual words in unusual combinations and this would be one way in whcih children could generate combinations. They could then speak them to see which sound right and which don't. I must get hold of a copy.
